Ballast Island Facebook Page

Ballast island is a small privately owned island which lies about a mille from the northeast coast of Southbass Island.  Legend has it that this island got its name because Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry used rocks from the island as ballast for his ships before sailing out to meet the British fleet during the War of 1812.

An excellent site with a history of Ballast Island
